For years we were the only locksmith in Marietta. I started the business October 25th 1999 off of Whitlock Avenue. When I first started the business it was kind of between phone books so I didn’t really have any advertising. So I had to do with the old fashioned way I bought business cards and I walked from one business to another business to another business dropping business cards introducing myself and hoping someone would call me in the future.
Believe it or not it was actually a very good marketing strategy I mean don’t get me wrong I probably went through four or five pairs of shoes but I pitched 5,000 business cards individually all by myself. That’s a level of Hustle that I think a lot of people just simply respected. My real goal was just to be a locksmith in Marietta. And then I moved on from Marietta to surrounding areas.
You see where a lot of business owners make friends to find business I really started my business to find friends growing up I was always kind of a little bit of a how can I put this… I was shy but when I spoke about my business I wasn’t shy at all for whatever reason. I got to know a lot of people very quickly. And although I wasn’t making a whole lot of money I considered myself a success just simply because of the fact that I had a lot of friends and I had gone from no friends to a whole lot of friends. After a while I became a very trusted member of the community I took a lot of Honor in this responsibility. When I first started for the most part I did residential automotive and Commercial work. Now I do primarily Commercial Door work residential work and I will go out and unlock vehicles but I don’t make keys for them anymore because they simply don’t make keys for cars anymore.
I really enjoyed when I went out into the public and people knew my name the highest compliment I think any business owner could ever get is a referral and I was getting them like crazy. When it comes time for you to need a locksmith by all means keep Northstar lock in the door in mind we try to under promise and over deliver as my dad would say we charge people fairly and now we’ve been a business going on 25 years.
